They provide strategic direction, evaluate ongoing projects, and offer independent scientific guidance to ensure our research remains at the cutting edge of innovation. Through their insights, we refine our R&D portfolio, assess market trends, and advance scientific breakthroughs that support healthier aging worldwide.

Led by Professor Yves Henrotin, our committee also includes Dr. Felix Eckstein, Dr. Manfred Windisch, Dr. Brian Marsden and Professor Lieven Annemans. With their expertise, we continue to push the boundaries of research, turning scientific discovery into real-world solutions.

Yves Henrotin

President

Professor Yves Henrotin is a leading figure in musculoskeletal health and a pioneer in the study of osteoarthritis. With over three decades of experience, his work bridges fundamental research, clinical application, and innovation in the field of healthy aging.

He serves as Professor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation at the University of Liège and is the Founder and Director of the musculoSKeletal Innovative research Lab (mSKIL). Yves has authored more than 400 scientific publications and is frequently invited to speak at international conferences. His research focuses on the biological mechanisms of joint diseases, as well as the development of novel therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Prof. Henrotin is also the Founder and President of the Osteoarthritis Foundation, and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Therapeutic Advances in Musculoskeletal Disease. His ability to translate complex science into real-world solutions has earned him recognition across academia, clinical practice, and industry.

Felix Eckstein

Member

Professor Dr. Felix Eckstein is a leading expert in musculoskeletal imaging and anatomy.

Since 2004, he has served as the Director of the Institute of Anatomy at Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria, where he also leads the Research Program for Musculoskeletal Imaging. His research focuses on the development and application of imaging methods to study musculoskeletal diseases, particularly osteoarthritis. He has been instrumental in advancing quantitative imaging biomarkers to assess the progression and treatment response of conditions affecting joints and cartilage.

In 2003 he founded Chondrometrics GmbH, a company specializing in software solutions for the analysis of cartilage and other joint tissues. This venture reflects his commitment to translating research innovations into practical tools for clinical and research applications.
Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in the osteoarthritis research community. He co-founded the International Workshop on Osteoarthritis Imaging (IWOAI) in 2007, fostering collaboration among scientists, clinicians, and industry professionals to enhance imaging techniques in osteoarthritis research.

Recognizing his contributions to the field, Professor Eckstein was appointed as the OARSI National Ambassador for Austria. In this role, he promotes activities of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) and supports the engagement of early career investigators in osteoarthritis research.

Manfred Windisch

Member

Dr. Manfred Windisch is an expert in neurodegenerative diseases, with a career spanning academia, industry, and entrepreneurial ventures. He earned his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Graz in 1985, where he later led a neurobiology research group focusing on brain metabolism and animal model development.

In 1999, Dr. Windisch founded JSW Lifesciences GmbH, an independent international contract research organization specializing in neurodegenerative disease models and pharmacological studies. Under his leadership, the company conducted numerous studies, contributing significantly to preclinical drug testing and the understanding of diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Windisch has held prominent positions in various organizations, including serving as Global Head of Neurosciences at QPS, LLC. He has also been actively involved in clinical research, organizing and conducting international trials from Phase 1 to Phase 3, utilizing advanced imaging techniques and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers.
Throughout his career her has authored approximately 100 original research articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been instrumental in organizing conferences focused on drug development for neurodegenerative diseases, including serving as an executive organizer of the AD-PD conference since 2007.

Brian Marsden

Member

Dr. Brian Marsden is a Principal Investigator in Research Informatics at the University of Oxford, with over two decades of experience at the intersection of biomedical data, translational research, and early drug discovery.

He currently leads efforts at both the Centre for Human Genetics and the Centre for Medicines Discovery, where his work focuses on integrating complex datasets to support smarter, faster R&D. Brian has built a career around bridging disciplines. With a background in computational structural biology, he has led large-scale data initiatives across academic, clinical, and industry collaborations. His expertise ranges from clinical data platforms and biomarker discovery to lab informatics and AI-powered research systems.

He has co-led several major European and Wellcome Trust-funded research programs, collectively valued at over £40 million, and authored nearly 100 scientific publications. His work continues to drive innovation in how we manage, analyze, and apply health data in complex disease areas, including aging-related conditions. Brian also serves as Director of the Nuffield Department of Medicine’s Clinical Data Platform and Associate Head of Digital and Information for Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division.
